Why does your GPS show less or more than 13.1 miles? We get asked this all the time. The USATF website does a great job explaining this. We want to give a big shout out to our course certifier. Imagine having take on this task armed with all that needed equipment and a 66 page manual! Don’t worry about it. We did that for you. All you have to do is train for this course. YOU AND YOUR FRIENDS WILL START IN FRONT OF THE ALLEY’S WATER TOWER IN DOWNTOWN MONTGOMERY.
The FIRST two miles are uphill. So, be patient and don’t go all out here. Enjoy the sunrise, relax, and let the ghost of Hank Williams Sr.’s tunes bring you past The Oakwood Cemetery. Around mile 3, you will find yourself surrounded by massive oak trees in Montgomery’s oldest park, Oak Park. You will run over I-85 at mile 5. Miles 6-9 will have you going through one of Montgomery’s beautiful neighborhoods, Old Cloverdale. Did you save enough energy to get you up Perry Street? Don’t burn all your matches as you make your way up this hill at mile 10. You will cross back over I-85 and cruise through downtown Montgomery. Hold on as you fly down Dexter Avenue in front of the Alabama State Capitol. If you have enough left in the tank, you should burn it all this last mile. Finish strong and run through the outfield at Riverwalk Stadium.
